Naada Devate | The Protector of Mysuru

🌍 The Crown of Chamundi Hills

The Shri Chamundeshwari Temple is an ancient landmark located roughly 13 km from the palace city of Mysuru. The temple is dedicated to Chamundeshwari, a fierce form of Shakti. According to the Devi Purana, this is where the Goddess defeated Mahishasura, restoring peace to the region. The temple has been patronized for centuries by the Hoysalas, Vijayanagara rulers, and the Wodeyars of Mysuru.

πŸ“œ Architectural Marvels

The temple is a classic example of Dravidian style, featuring a magnificent 7-tier Gopuram (entrance tower) decorated with intricate carvings of the Goddess in various forms.

The Great Nandi

Halfway up the hill sits a massive 15-foot-high monolith of Nandi (Shiva’s Bull), carved from a single piece of black granite in 1659.

The Golden Idol

The sanctum houses a stunning stone idol of the Goddess, often decorated with gold and jewels gifted by the Mysuru Royalty.

✨ Mysuru Dasara 2026: The “Nada Habba” (State Festival) will culminate in the Vijayadashami procession on October 21, 2026. The idol of Chamundeshwari is placed in a golden howdah atop a lead elephant for the city-wide parade.
